A critical warning has been given to Ethereum, Polygon, and Binance account holders by a cryptocurrency wallet service. This set of users has been warned by Ledger to be on the alert for fraudulent “voucher” NFTs issued to their accounts. The bitcoin wallet service claims that these contain malicious URLs aimed to trick users into releasing their 24-word recovery phrase.

According to Ledger, users may get unsolicited NFT airdrops that appear to be vouchers, assuring free money if redeemed on a third-party website. These NFT coupons are frauds that usually include links to third-party websites. Users are duped into accessing third-party websites or applications where they are prompted to provide their 24-word recovery phrase or sign a fraudulent transaction using their Ledger device, granting the fraudster access to their accounts.

Users are reminded not to expose their 24-word recovery phrase to anybody or put it into any website or app. It also specifies precautions they may take to keep secure, such as not attempting to transfer or destroy the NFT and instead right-clicking it and selecting “hidden.”

In summary, when confronted with an unwelcome NFT coupon with links, users should take the following procedures. The first step is to avoid interacting with any links or websites that are associated with the malicious NFT. Second, do not send the NFT to another account or burner address. This requires interaction with the NFT’s underlying smart contract, which might be malicious and jeopardize the user’s account.

Finally, in Ledger Live, hide the NFT by right-clicking on it and selecting “Hide NFT Collection.”
