Announced on Tuesday, Roblox, the online platform boasting more than 200 million monthly users and 65.5 million daily active users, revealed its intention to incorporate XRP for in-game transactions through a partnership with BitPay and Xsolla.

Roblox reported $773 million in in-game sales after a profitable start to 2023.

BitPay and Xsolla, which have been working together since 2014, were instrumental in making this integration possible. Xsolla, who is in charge of supervising Roblox’s in-game transactions, was a pioneer in the use of cryptocurrencies in the gaming business.

Nonetheless, Xsolla began their cryptocurrency integration attempt in August 2022 by creating a payment system centered on NFTs in collaboration with Coinchange Financials Inc. and TradeZing.

As a consequence, by incorporating Crypto.com’s checkout solution into its Pay Station platform, Xsolla extended its payment options.

Xsolla expanded its payment options in September 2023 by allowing transactions in PayPal USD.

According to John Deaton, the legal counsel for XRP, this move has the potential to herald the beginning of a new era in the use of cryptocurrencies in the gaming industry, giving potential benefits to both gamers and developers. Furthermore, it may create a strong precedent for other Web2 gaming companies to consider including digital money.

Roblox’s decision to accept payments in both XRP and BTC confirms its position as a gaming industry leader, highlighting cryptocurrencies’ growing relevance in digital commerce.
