Wednesday witnessed a stock market rebound following significant losses in the previous session. This turnaround occurred as the rapid surge in bond yields momentarily paused, and investors prepared for the potential consequences of the historic removal of the US House Speaker.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw an increase of approximately 0.4%, equivalent to over 100 points, following a sharp decline in stock prices that had pushed this benchmark into negative territory for the year.

In contrast, the S&P 500 posted a gain of roughly 0.8%, while the Nasdaq Composite, which strongly emphasizes technology stocks, led the way with an increase of more than 1.0%. This marked its most robust performance in about five weeks.

However, the stock market indexes did face significant declines as yields on US government bonds surged. The 30-year Treasury yield reached 5%, a level not seen since 2007. Nevertheless, yields have since retreated, causing the 10-year yield to drop below 4.8%. This shift has prompted a fundamental change in how investors perceive various assets, including stocks, currencies, and the role of bonds in their investment portfolios.

Consequently, two additional Federal Reserve officials joined their colleagues in emphasizing the message that interest rates are likely to remain elevated for an extended period. This message has played a significant role in driving the increase in bond yields.
