After the market closed on Wednesday, U.S. stocks fell as losses in the oil and gas, basic materials, and technology sectors drove down stock prices. The NASDAQ Composite index plummeted 1.53%, the S&P 500 index sank 0.94%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.22% at the NYSE close. Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) was the best-performing stock of the afternoon on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, rising 2.71% or 7.15 points to close at 271.46. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 2.28% or 3.34 points to 149.86 in late session, and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) gained 2.41% or 11.60 points to close at 492.26. The session’s worst performance was Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which dropped 4.54% or 1.65 points to conclude at 34.69. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) down 2.0% or 3.59 points to finish at 175.99, while Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) dropped 2.40 percent or 7.88 points to close at 320.77. On the S&P 500, Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT), which increased 4.94% to 79.38, AutoZone Inc. (NYSE:AZO), which increased 4.39% to close at 2,583.83, and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC), which increased 3.94% to close at 45.65, were the top three performers.

The worst performers were The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS), which dropped 5.84% to close at 37.06, Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA), which was down 6.48% to 235.83 in late trade, and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which was down 4.54% to 34.69 at the close. Digital Transformation Opportunities Corp (NASDAQ:DTOC), which increased 89.56% to 25.97, MSP Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:LIFW), which increased 64.14% to end at 0.15, and Fresh Tracks Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:FRTX), which increased 54.48% to close at 0.90, were the top performers on the NASDAQ Composite. The worst performers were Molekule Group Inc (NASDAQ:MKUL), down 42.87% to 0.42 at the close, Seelos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SEEL), down 69.49% to 0.31 in late trade, and ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SPRY), down 55.79% to conclude at 2.92. 

On the New York Stock Exchange, declining equities outweighed rising ones by 1718 to 1208 while 78 stocks closed unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2324 fell and 1154 rose while 131 stocks ended unchanged. Seelos Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:SEEL) shares reached an all-time low after dropping 69.49% or 0.69 to 0.31. Shares of ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SPRY) decreased by 55.79%, or from 3.68 to 2.92, to reach a 52-week low. Shares of Molekule Group Inc (NASDAQ:MKUL) lost 42.87%, or 0.32 to 0.42, to reach an all-time low. The CBOE Volatility Index, which gauges S&P 500 option implied volatility, increased 7.30% to 15.14. The price of gold in December futures contracts fell 0.06% or 1.25 to $1,952.45 per troy ounce. In other commodity transactions, the November delivery price of crude oil decreased by 1.32% or 1.19 to $89.29 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract decreased by 1.24% or 1.17 to $93.17 a barrel. While USD/JPY increased 0.26% to 148.25, EUR/USD remained stable at 1.07, up 0.14%. At 105.03, the US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.18%.
